Artpack

A Artpack (Scene linguistically also abbreviated to " pack " ) is a periodic compilation of digital art - mostly ASCII, ANSI and pixel art, digital music and software art - that of the members of a digital artist group (Scene terminology also called " artgroup " ) were created in a given period. Artpacks are usually published as compressed archive files in zip or other archive formats.

With the release as Artpack the artist deliberately not allow fast and therefore tend to be superficial viewing in a web browser. A Artpack must be downloaded, " offline " unpacked and are often explored manually via File Manager. In this way, both the works of art are placed in a context to each other and the viewer consciously included in this context.

Other forms of publicity, digital art, which are used by Artgroups are diskmags and Music discs that set their own graphical interfaces to the location of the file manager.

History

Artgroups understood mostly as a federation of digital artists for the purpose of non-commercial dissemination of their art. Were Artgroups in the 1980s and 1990s founded as subgroups (Scene linguistically " Subdivision " ) by cracker groups, they now work mainly as a freelance demand groups.

Internationally renowned American Artgroups are ACiD Productions ( since 1990) and iCE Advertisements (since 1991 ); a well-known German artgroup is Black Maiden (since 1985).
