Inventions

In January 1921, the first steam locomotive (Consolidation No. 740 324 ) was taken with the he designed Caprotti control, valve control in the Ferrovie dello Stato in its regular operation. The invention has been accompanied by reports in the international press. As a result, they built a control into existing locomotives. Since 1926, drove the net the London, Midland and Scottish Railway locomotives of William Beardmore and Company with this control, in the United States built Baldwin Locomotive Works in the control locomotives. In Germany and Austria the control, however, was used tentatively. Later, the control also in the railway network of France, India, Egypt and Romania, and other countries was used. Furthermore, she was also in steam vessels operating on Lake Como, in the lagoon of Venice, as well as built- in two English vessels fabrication.

Comparison tests in Germany in the presence Caprottis with a conventional, controlled by piston valve Prussian P 8 and a refitted Caprotti valve control P 8 were less favorable steam and coal consumption values of the locomotive with valve control compared those with piston valve control, moreover, the Caprotti control was more susceptible to interference.

The London Institution of Locomotive Engineers awarded him for his invention of a gold medal.
