Arvo Volmer

Arvo Volmer (* November 4, 1962 in Tallinn) is an Estonian conductor.

After graduating from Arvo Volmer studied from 1980 to 1985 the trade orchestral conducting ( opera and symphony orchestra ) at the Estonian Music Academy in Tallinn and from 1985 to 1990 at the Conservatory in Leningrad. Since 1985 he worked as a conductor in Estonia.

His international breakthrough he reached with the Nikolai Malko Competition - 1989 in Copenhagen.

Arvo Volmer was from 1993 to 2001 chief conductor of the Estonian State Symphony Orchestra ( ERSO ). From 1994 to 2005 he was artistic director and chief conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Oulu (Oulu Sinfonia ) in Finland. Since 2004 he is the musical director of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and artistic director and chief conductor of the Estonian National Opera in Tallinn.

Arvo Volmer was also a guest conductor of many internationally renowned orchestras, particularly in Scandinavia. To Volmers recordings include the complete orchestral works of Leevi Madetoja and all the symphonies of Eduard Tubin. He is regarded as one of the foremost interpreters of the works of Jean Sibelius.
