Aryeh Bahir

Aryeh Bahir (birth name: Aryeh Geller; Hebrew אריה בהיר; born May 1, 1906 in Odessa, Russian Empire, † September 13, 1970 ) was an Israeli politician, who was elected in 1949 as Member of Parliament in the first Knesset.

Life

After visiting the Hebrew Gymnasium in Odessa Bahir studied at the Polytechnic Institute and was active already during this time in the socialist- Zionist Hashomer Hatzair Scout Organization.

After his immigration ( aliyah ) into the League of Nations Mandate of Palestine in 1924, he was in 1936 one of the founders of Kibbutz Afikim and was active as a leader of the movement Hashomer Hatzair in Mapai, the party of the working of the Land of Israel, and in the kibbutz movement.

Bahir, the board member of the construction company Soleh Boneh was, was chosen after the creation of Israel on 14 February 1949, a member of the first Knesset, and was one of these until the end of its term on 20 August 1951. Between August 15, 1955 and November 30, 1959, he was again a member of the Knesset and was this after he was member of the 1965 Rafi on again on 20 February 1967 to 17 November 1969 a part of the fifth legislature. During his membership of Parliament he was a member of various Knesset committees and at times Envoy Israel at several conferences abroad.
