Ascensión Nicol y Goñi

Ascension del Corazón de Jesús MDR (real name: Florentina Nicol Goñi ) ( born March 14, 1868 in Tafalla, Navarra, Spain, † February 24, 1940 in Pamplona, Spain) was a Spanish nun and founder of the order and was founded in 2005 by the Catholic Church beatified.

Life

Florentina Nicol Goñi joined with 17 years in the Dominican nuns in Huesca and took the religious name Ascension del Sagrado Corazón (English Ascencio the Heart of Jesus ) to. In Huesca, the sisters ran a college, taught at the sister Ascension for 28 years. In 1912 the school was closed by the government and some sisters were invited by Bishop Ramon Zubieta y Les, Vicar Apostolic of Puerto Maldonado to move into the Amazon basin in northern Peru to establish schools there. The former Master of the Order of the Dominicans, Fr Louis Theis Ling, suggested the creation of a Mission Order, including sister Ascension was appointed. So in 1918 the Missionary Dominica Santísimo Rosario were called (German Dominican Missionaries of the Rosary ) to life. Sister Ascension was the first Superior General, and held this office almost until her death. Today, the missionary order in 21 countries, operates with 770 sisters.

Ascension Nicol Goni was beatified in Rome on May 14, 2005, together with Marianne Cope. Your Memorial Day in the liturgy is February 24.
