Ashiaman
Ashaiman is a city in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. The city has the last official census from 2010, the result 190 972 inhabitants, making it the fifth largest city in Ghana.
Location
Ashaiman is located a few kilometers east of the Ghanaian capital Accra. In the east it borders the city of Tema it was until 2008 a district ( Subdistrict ). 2008 was from Tema Ashaiman District independently and has since a peculiar city administration, the Ashaiman Municipality Assembly ( Ashma ). It is a very closely populated place with a high unemployment rate, where the infrastructure is developing only slowly.
Demographics
Like the rest of the Greater Accra has also Ashaiman on an enormously high rate of population growth. By 1984, the municipality still 50 918 inhabitants by 2000 it had tripled, even quadrupled by 2012. The city has become even more inhabitants than Tema, of which she was a district in 1984. According to local information, the current population will amount against the official specifications on hundreds of thousands or even over 1 million. The new residents come looking for work in Accra or Tema from diverse regions of Ghana and other West African countries and settle frequently, despite dominating also a lack of work, the long term here. More important in terms of the increase in population, however, as in many other African cities also, the high natural population growth.
History
Ashaiman is well known throughout Ghana and decried as a " slum " and home to criminals. This image is corrected only slowly in spite of rapid growth.
Traffic
There is a nationally important junction for the routes to the coast.
Facilities
There are several schools, a vocational training center and a few social projects for the rehabilitation of street children and other poor and neglected marginalized groups.
Otherwise increasingly open more churches, mosques and slowly even banks in Ashaiman.
