Ashikaga Tadayoshi

Ashikaga Tadayoshi (Japanese足 利 直 义; * 1306, † 1352) was a general in the time of the North and Südhöfe ( 1337-1392 ) of Japanese history. His older brother Ashikaga Takauji was the first Muromachi shogun.

After the Emperor Go - Daigo helped in the Kemmu restoration of 1333, Tadayoshi was appointed governor ( kami ) in Sagami Province. In 1335, during the run of Hōjō Tokiyuki Nakasendai rebellion killed Tadayoshi Go- Daigo's son, Prince Morinaga.

After he had turned against the emperor, installed Tadayoshi and Takauji in 1336 a rival emperor and founded in 1338 the Muromachi shogunate. As the driving force of the brothers, Takauji took over military affairs and Tadayoshi the legal and administrative things. 1350 rebelled Tadayoshi, however, because of a conflict with Takaujis governor eco N Moronao. 1351 he conquered Kyoto (see Kanno unrest ). An agreement between the brothers proved short-lived. Tadayoshi fled to Kamakura, followed by Takauji with an army. In March 1352, shortly after an alleged agreement Tadayoshi died suddenly, probably of poison.
