Asian Cup (ice hockey)

The Asia Cup (English Asian Cup ) was an organized regularly between 1992 and 1995 ice hockey tournament of the International Ice Hockey Federation for Asian Hockey teams. It was launched in 1991 to life, but first held because of the Second Gulf War in 1992. A total of three sweeps took place, two of which Japan won.

History

The first Asia Cup was first held in February 1991, but was postponed to January 1992 under the Second Gulf War. At the inaugural tournament took with Japan, the People 's Republic of China, South Korea and North Korea four teams participate. The title secured Japan. The following year, again took part in these four teams and again Japan won the tournament. After a break in 1994, the competition was first held outside Japan. In addition, the eventual winner Kazakhstan replaced the team from North Korea.

After 1995, the competition has been set, which can be regarded as a forerunner of the later IIHF competitions IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia, Arab Cup of Ice Hockey and Ice Hockey Championship of the Gulf.
