Silberklaffschnabel ( Anastomus oscitans )

The Silberklaffschnabel ( Anastomus oscitans ) is a species of Ciconiiformes and heard here in the stork family ( ciconiidae ). He lives as a breeding bird in tropical southern Asia from India and Sri Lanka to Southeast Asia.

Features

The Silberklaffschnabel is a large, breitflügeliger bird, which is relatively small for a stork with 68 centimeters in size. It owes its name to one of his bright, white to silver-colored plumage and beak, the tip gapes apart because nonconsecutive put the two halves. Adult animals are always completely white and only the feathers of the wings are black while the legs red and the beak is yellow-gray. Young animals have a youth dress with brown feathers.

Way of life

He uses during the flight, especially the buoyancy ascending hot air. Like all storks he walks on the floor with head stretched. It feeds like most of his relatives mainly of snails, frogs, large insects and other small animals, which it catches wading in shallow water.

Their nest put the birds in the vicinity of wetlands in trees. The nest consists of two to six eggs.
