Yellow Asphodel ( Asphodeline lutea)

The Junkers Lilies ( Asphodeline ) are a genus of flowering plants in the subfamily Asphodelus ( Asphodeloideae ). They were assigned to the lily family ( Liliaceae ) earlier.

Description

They are mostly perennial, herbaceous plants, forming a short, partly creeping rhizome as Überdauerungsorgan.

The yellow or white flowers are triple as in most monocots. As spherical fruit, leathery capsules are formed, which contain the black tetrahedral seeds. In contrast to the very similar genus asphodel, the Asphodeline types have different lengths of stamens and the leaves are arranged distributed over the stem. Flowers formula:
