Aspirin-induced asthma

As Samter 's triad (including Crohn 's disease or Samter Widal called ) refers to an adverse reaction after taking acetylsalicylic acid (ASA ) or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs ( NSAIDs).

1922 Widal and colleagues observed that the ASA - intolerance occurs very frequently in conjunction with nasal polyps and asthma. They described this syndrome as aspirin triad. However, the Samter 's triad (sinusitis, nasal polyps, bronchial asthma) is not limited to ASA. The symptoms also occur with the use of other NSAIDs.

Patients with Samter 's triad have a significantly higher tendency to relapse with standard therapy of sinusitis. As newer, supportive therapy is the adaptive deactivation available. For this one takes after adjustment by the doctor permanently acetylsalicylic acid and thus can successfully counteract the polyp formation.

In asthmatics, the percentage of patients with ASA intolerance about 8 to 20%, in patients with nasal polyps about 6 to 15 %. It is believed a genetic ( hereditary ) predisposition.
