Asprovalta

Asprovalta (Greek Ασπροβάλτα ( f sg ) ) is a village in the municipality Volvi the Strymonas golf in the extreme east of the Regional District Thessaloniki. As the largest holiday center Asprovalta Macedonia has achieved a high level of awareness. Asprovalta located directly on Highway 2 and on the National Road 2, the route of the ancient Via Egnatia corresponds here.

By June 2010 was Asprovalta administrative seat of the municipality of Agios Georgios. After approved in May 2010 under the name Kallikratis plan municipality and administrative reform Asprovalta lost the county seat. There the newly created municipality Volvi was assumed; whose administrative headquarters is located 8 km west of Asprovalta place Stavros.

According to the last census in 2011 Asprovalta has about 3,000 inhabitants, with the number in the summer months, due to increases by the many holiday home owners many times over.

Asprovalta has more than 10 km of coastline and is situated at the foot of the mountain Kerdylio, which reaches a height of over 1080 meters within the city limits.

The inhabitants of Asprovalta mostly come from Asia Minor were resettled in 1923 as part of the population exchange because of the Greco- Turkish War. Today Asprovalta lives almost exclusively on tourism and retail.
