Assad Bucaram

Assad Bucaram ( born December 24, 1916 in Ambato, † November 5, 1981 in Guayaquil ) was an Ecuadorian politician of the Fuerzas Populares de Concentración (CFP ) and mayor of Guayaquil.

Assad Bucaram was born the son of Lebanese immigrants in Ecuador. Soon after his birth his parents moved with him to Guayaquil. He was from 1961 leader of the Fuerzas Populares de Concentración and as such from 1962 until the military coup in 1963 mayor of Guayaquil. Bucaram was exiled and could not return until 1966. This year Bucaram was Vice President of the Constituent Assembly. In 1967 he was re-elected as mayor of Guayaquil. After the return to democracy in 1979 Assad Bucaram was not allowed to compete as a presidential candidate, so did his kandidierender for the same party son Jaime Roldós. Bucaram took over the Presidency of Parliament. After the assumption of office of Roldós however, there were political differences between Roldós and Bucaram, as a result Roldós 1980 as a spin-off of the CFP own party Pueblo, Cambio y Democracia ( People's German, Change and Democracy) founded.
