Assigned amount units

Assigned Amount Units ( AAUs ) are UN carbon credits, which for trade between Annex- I countries ( industrialized countries ) under the Kyoto Protocol entitle. An AAU certificate corresponds to the emission of greenhouse gases with a ton of CO2 equivalents are emitted. For the first Kyoto commitment period (2008 to 2012) participating in the Kyoto Protocol Annex B countries have been allocated. The size of allocations corresponds to the conditions laid down in the Annex B of the Kyoto Protocol emission limits, which are defined as emission reductions relative to a base year (for most states in 1990 ). At the end of the commitment period, the industrialized countries have to submit as many allowances as it corresponds to the actual emissions. This AAUs can be partially replaced by Emission Reduction Units ( ERUs ) and Certified Emission Reductions ( CERs) generated by the project-based mechanisms Joint Implementation ( JI) and the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).
