Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps

The Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps ( ACMC; German about: Deputy Chief of Staff of the United States Marine Corps ) is the first advisor and assistant to the Commandant of the Marine Corps ( CMC). He cares about the " daily business " at the headquarters of United States Marine Corps, so that the CMC is free for the joint forces, interdepartmental working at the Joint Chiefs of Staff. It can also work as Acting CMC when the actual CMC is indisposed.

The official position of the ACMC assumes the rank of General and the approval of the U.S. Senate.

Before 1946 was the title of the post Assistant to the Commandant of the Marine Corps. For the period before 1918 only the description of duty in the office of the Commandant is performed (German service in the office of the Commandant ) in the files of the USMC for this post. Before the First World War, this item can not be established. This is probably explained by the fact that the Commandant, at this time the much smaller U.S. Marine Corps, had only one administrative staff and no deputies.
