Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs

The Assistant Secretary of State for Inter- American Affairs is an office in the State Department of the United States.

The responsibilities of the respective public official includes the management of the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs. The Western Hemisphere, the hemisphere west of Greenwich, is an elliptical term for the continent of America. According to this language regime renamed the School of the Americas as the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation.

An office that order, with the corresponding tasks was created on December 20, 1944 at the State Department.

Constitutes the legal basis for four Assistant Secretary of States The Foreign Service Act of 24 May 1924. 1944 agreed to the Congress of the United States that the executive branch, the number of Assistant Secretaries of State increased from four to six.

  • From 1944 to 1949 was renamed the appropriate office as Assistant Secretary of State for American Republic Affairs.
  • From 1949 to 2000 was renamed the appropriate office as Assistant Secretary of State for Inter- American Affairs and was entrusted with the management of the Bureau of Inter- American Affairs ( ARA).
