The Assiut University is an Egyptian university in Upper Egypt. It is located 357 km south of the capital Cairo in the eponymous city of Assiut.

The university was founded in 1957 and thus is considered the first Egyptian University in Upper Egypt. In the 1970s, as a branch of al - Minya University was founded. In 1998/99, 62 776 students were enrolled at the University of Assiut, in the year 2004/2005 there were 63 995 students ( undergraduate ) and 4,927 post-graduate students. The number of lecturers from the University of has increased in 2007 by 21 faculty members and six assistants in 1957 to 2355 faculty (of which 24.6 % women) and 1408 assistants ( 48% women). The official languages ​​of instruction at the university are sorted by Faculty Arabic and English.
