Association for the Rebirth of Madagascar

The Andry sy Rihana Enti - Manavotra an'i Madagasikara ( German Association for the Rebirth of Madagascar, French Association pour la renaissance de Madagascar, abbreviation AREMA ) is a political party in Madagascar.

The national general secretary of the party 's Pierrot Rajaonarivelo, the Interim National Secretary Pierre Houlder Ramaholimasy.

History

The party was founded on 19 March 1976 as a pro-Soviet party of President Didier Ratsiraka. She held the majority of seats in parliament until the fall of its military regime in 1991.

In the Senate elections on 18 March 2001, Andry sy Rihana Enti - Manavotra an'i Madagasikara won 49 of 60 seats again.

In the Malagasy parliamentary elections on 15 December 2002, the party won only 4.9% of the people vote and only 3 of the 160 parliamentary seats in the Malagasy National Assembly, all three in the province of Toamasina.

The acting National Secretary of the party, Pierrot Rajaonarivelo, was elected at the party's congress on 29 November 1977. He went into exile in France in 2002, however, and has been judicially condemned in absentia; since it is represented by Ramaholimasy.

Currently, the party is divided into two factions: the followers Rajaonarivelos one hand and the supporters of party founder Ratsiraka other.

Rajaonarivelo wanted to compete in December 2006 for the presidential election, but was not allowed to enter to Madagascar.

The Group, however, Ratsiraka was considering a boycott of the parliamentary elections in September 2007, as opposed to participating Rajoanarivelo faction. The Ratsiraka faction wanted to prevent the participation of Rajaonativelo faction, however, allowed the High Constitutional Court, the participation Andry sy Rihana Enti - Manavotra an'i Madagasikara.
