Association of German Architects

The Association of German Architects BDA eV is an association of freelance architect in Germany.

History

The Association of German Architects was founded on 21 June 1903 in Frankfurt am Main, to promote the quality of planning and building in responsibility towards the society. He served as advocacy freelance architect.

1919 joined the former BDA, the German Freie Architekten shaft ( DFA ) and the German architectural community (DA ) as the new BDA together.

In 1934, under the presidency of Eugen Honig Gleichschaltung of German Architects for state-supporting professional organization representing the architectural profession, namely as a specialist group within the Reich Chamber of Fine Arts, which in turn was a subsidiary organization of the Reich Chamber of Culture.

In 1948, the BDA was re-established with significant participation by architects such as Eugene Fabricius who've been before 1933 years of BDA members. This despite the fourteen- year hiatus, a largely unquestioned continuity was established, which allowed the celebration of the centenary in 2003, among others.

1952 was constituted as a result of the division of Germany, the Association of German Architects in East Germany, which was established in 1971 to collar the architects of the German Democratic Republic ( BdA / GDR ). This broke up in 1990, as a result new regional associations of the BDA were established in the new federal states.

From the beginning architects only freelance taken, the only exception are architects who are involved in teaching. To date, the greatest emphasis is placed on their design skills and entrepreneurial independence in the appointment of new members, with the former criterion poses a hardly objective to solve the definition problem in the past - always caused controversy - especially in times of stylistic change. In the work of the Federation it is well to overlapping content with the established post-1945 architectural associations, in which is also employed architects organized.

Organization

The German office is located in Berlin -Mitte in German Center for Architecture. Acting President is the architect Heiner Farwick.

The association is represented by 16 national associations with a number of regional and urban sub-groups in the provinces, regions, municipalities and cities. The national associations are characterized at the country level from good architecture and support with sponsorship awards most gifted students and graduates of the faculties of architecture. The regional reference is a particular concern of the BDA, for he shall ensure that the necessary critical discussion of the construction can be updated and managed by well-informed professionals.

The club has indicated that currently (as of January 2014) around 5000 members.

Activities

The club has been awarded the German Architecture Centre DAZ in Berlin, which presents exhibitions and accompanying events current trends in architecture and urbanism. The association provides its concern at the federal level with the annual events "Berliner conversation" and " BDA - day " and his numerous other events on current topics, through opinions and publications. In addition, six times the journal is published annually " the architect ".

Prices

The association gives in alternate years the Great BDA Prize, the BDA award for architectural criticism and the architecture prize "Nike". In cooperation with the Association of Polish Architects SARP bilateral BDA Award SARP Award is given architecture of German and Polish universities for graduates of all disciplines. The German Developers' Prize is awarded by the German Association of Cities, the Association of German Architects and the Association of German housing and real estate companies. In cooperation with other partners, other architecture prizes will be awarded by the Federation.

The national associations are characterized regularly with various land prices high quality architecture.
