Assomada (Portuguese Cidade de Assomada ) is the capital of the municipality of Santa Catarina, on the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. The city is located in the mountainous interior, and, with 13,562 inhabitants ( 2009), behind the capital Praia and the port town of Mindelo, the third largest city of the Republic of Cape Verde.

As a regional trade center there is a large market in Assomada for the needs of daily life. Twice a week, also there is a large weekly market, the dealer also visit more remote communities.
