Asterope (star)

Asterope (also Sterope ) is the proper name of the located in the Pleiades star 21 and 22 Tauri. Because of their low luminosity and its small distance, the name was assigned two stars. Today they are also called Sterope I ( 21 Tau ) and Sterope II (22 Tau ) distinguished.

Asterope can be like all the stars of the Pleiades occasionally covered by the moon. It takes its name from Asterope, a galaxy of Greek mythology.

Sterope I has an apparent magnitude of 5.76 mag and belongs to the spectral class B8V. It is approximately 387 light years from Earth ( Hipparcos database).

Sterope II has an apparent magnitude of 6.43 mag and belongs to the spectral class A0Vn. It is approximately 354 light years from Earth.
