Astronomy Day

The astronomy day is coordinated in Germany since 2003 by the Association of Friends star (VdS) and in Austria by the Austrian Society for Astronomy and Astrophysics ( ÖGAA ).

The actual events on the ground of public observatories, planetariums, associations and private persons are carried out by means of lectures and star guides.

Germany

  • From 3 August 2003 on " Mars" (141 operators). The sole event of the VdS.
  • September 18, 2004: Topic " Milky Way " (180 operators). In cooperation with the Long Night of Stars ( LNdS ), an action of the magazine Stern, the European Southern Observatory ( ESO) and the Council of Planetariums ( RdP ).
  • September 10, 2005: Topic " Our neighbors in space: Mars, Moon and Venus" (250 operators). The sole event of the VdS.
  • September 16, 2006: No subject (173 operators). The sole event of the VdS.
  • September 29, 2007: No subject (143 operators). The sole event of the VdS.
  • September 6, 2008: No subject
  • April 4, 2009: No subject
  • April 24, 2010: No subject
  • April 9, 2011: No subject
  • March 24, 2012: Theme " The long night of the planet "
  • March 16, 2013: Topic " vagabonds of the Solar System ": The comet C/2011 L4 ( PanStarrs ) approaches currently the sun.
  • April 5, 2014: Topic " Space deserts ": for all bodies of the solar system are meant of which you know " desert " surfaces.

The Swiss astronomy day is held every year at a different location in Switzerland by the Swiss Astrophysics.ch and astronomy day club in collaboration with various institutions.

Foreign countries

Astronomy Day is also abroad, eg since 1973 as Astronomy Day in the U.S. and as a night of the stars in France.
