Atacama Submillimeter Telescope Experiment

The Atacama Submillimeter Telescope Experiment ASTE is a radio telescope for the sub-millimeter range.

The ASTE telescope with 10 m diameter antenna and highly accurate reflector surface was built by Mitsubishi Electric as a preliminary draft of an antenna for the Atacama Large Millimeter Array, ALMA. It is since 2004 as a single telescope for frequencies up to 900 GHz in the Pampa La Bola in 4860 m altitude near the ALMA site in Chile in operation. ASTE is a project of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, several Japanese universities and the Universidad de Chile.
