Atlantis FC

The Atlantis Football Club is a Finnish football club from Helsinki, which emerged from the merger of the Helsinki clubs Johanneksen Dynamo and FC Norssi 1995.

Atlantis FC plays 2010 in the Kakkonen (group A), the third- highest league in Finland.

History

After its foundation in 1995 the Atlantis FC 1996 first participated in the third division in the game mode. 1997 promotion to the Ykkönen. Reached in 1999, the club here relegation to promotion to the top league of the First Division, but failed to Vaasa PS. A year later the club then managed the climb. 2001 Atlantis won the Finnish Football Cup with a 1-0 victory against Tampere United and was seventh in the First Division. In 2002, the club got financial problems and went bankrupt. The starting place in the First Division received the newly formed AC Allianssi. The second team of FC Atlantis, called Atlantis Akatemia could continue to participate in the third division in the game mode and changed its name in 2003 to Atlantis FC. 2004, the "new" Atlantis FC rose to the Ykkönen. In the 2009 season the club was relegated to the Kakkonen.

Venue

The Atlantis FC plays its home games at the historic stadium Töölön Pallokenttä, which is adjacent to the Sonera Stadium and Olympic Stadium. It was built in 1915 and at the time was the first football stadium in Finland. The stadium was until the 1930s the venue for many international matches of the Finnish national team. It was renovated in 2001 and now holds 4,000 spectators.

Others

Gösta Sundqvist, the singer of the Finnish band Leevi and the leavings, the association gave its name to Atlantis.
