Atom Heart Mother (suite)

Atom Heart Mother is the title of a six-part suite of British band Pink Floyd. She's appeared on the 1970 album of the same name on which it takes up the entire first side of the plate. It is 23:43 minutes with the longest uncut composition of the band. (Only the song Shine On You Crazy Diamond is longer, however, was before the publication divided into two parts that frame the album Wish You Were Here. ) The song was written by all four members of the band and Ron Geesin.

Parts

Father's Shout ( 0:00 to 2:54 )

The song begins with a deep tone of a Hammond organ. Then the wind set, which generate by a chromatic melody a dramatic effect.

At 1:22 the drums begins.

The next part can be described as the main theme. In the end, the music is quiet. In between you can hear the noise of a carriage and a motorcycle.

Breast Milky ( 2:55 to 5:26 )

In Breast Milky a cello comes to that, which is accompanied by bass and organ. At 3:27 in addition also the percussion is added. This is followed by David Gilmour solo played on the slide guitar.

Mother Fore ( 5:27 to 10:12 )

This part begins with gentle tones of Roger Waters ' bass and Richard Wright's organ, accompanied by a choir which is always louder. At 8:51 is added Nick Mason's drums.

Funky Dung ( 10:13 to 15:29 )

Funky Dung is strongly influenced by funk. In the background, the band plays, while David Gilmour plays a second guitar solo. At 13:00 resumes the choir that sings this time disjointed syllables. ( ... Ua, SICOPA, mi, tucafi, sasasasasa, FSSS, rrroti, rapatika, uopocha, rapatika ... ) Then the music returns to the main theme of Father's Shout.

Mind Your Throats, Please ( 15:30 to 19:13 )

This part starts with the sounds. Later, the instruments that play, one at a time and hide various passages from the piece are. This results in a sense of "disorder". Shortly before the end of the part you can hear call! " Silence In The Studio" a distorted voice. Then the instruments shine again " arrange ", and they all play at a constant volume again a reprise of the main theme.

Remergence ( 19:14 to 23:43 )

Remergence begins at the end of the main theme, which began in Mind Your Throats, Please. This is followed by a reprise of the cello solo. Later you hear a to the slide solo from Breast Milky reminiscent, with two guitars rehearsed solo. Finally, play all the instruments and the chorus one last time the main theme of Father's Shout, to all end on the last note of the piece.

Working Title

The piece had a number of working titles during its production. The main theme was described by David Gilmour as Theme From an Imaginary Western ( Theme from an imaginary western ). The first working title for the whole piece was Epic (epic, powerful ). This title as a headline on Ron Geesins original score. Later, the title The Amazing Pudding was ( The Incredible dessert). 1970, the final title has been set. Bassist Roger Waters proposed that the Officer John Peel to look in a newspaper for a suitable title. He found in the Evening Standard from July 16, 1970 an article about a pregnant woman, the one driven by a nuclear battery pacemaker should be used. The headline of the article was Atom Heart Mother (Atom Heart Mother ).
