Atomic City is a city in Bingham County in the U.S. state of Idaho. In 2000, the settlement had 25 inhabitants.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has an area of 0.3 km ².

History

Formerly called the Midway settlement, which was probably due to the fact that it is halfway between the towns of Blackfoot and Arco. The place had significantly more residents than the adjacent establishment of the DOE was even greater. At present there are in place a shop and a bar, where the shop due to new legal requirements relating sold the underground tanks run out of fuel. Most of the grown people here are now drawn out and most of the current residents are retired. There is on the southern edge of the city a stand for RVs and in summer stock car races are held.

Demography

At the census in 2000 lived in the village of 25 people in 16 households belonging to 7 families. The population density was an average of 97 inhabitants per km ². It 22 residential units were recorded. 24 residents were white, one Asian.

Of the 16 households a child lived only in an under 18 in six households lived married couples. In the remaining nine non- family- related persons lived. In two households than-life 65 -year-old. The average household size was 1.56 persons and the average family size is 2.29 people.

In the place a person lives under 18, one between 18 and 24 years, between 25 and 44 years, two aged twelve between 45 and 64 years and 8 over 65 years. The average age was 58 years. Ten of the population is female, 15 male.

The median income for a household was $ 9,375 and the median income for a family at $ 8,750. Males had a median income of $ 43,750, women $ 8,750. The per capita income for the town was $ 16,276. 57 % of the population and 63 % of families are below the poverty line. Half of people over 65 living below the poverty line.

Economics

In the vicinity of the location of the Experimental Breeder Reactor I was operated.

The place is a possible site for a nuclear fabrication plant.
