Auburn Gallipoli Mosque

The Auburn Gallipoli Mosque ( engl. Auburn Gallipoli Mosque ) is located in the town of Auburn in the Australian state of New South Wales. The first mosque in the same place was opened on November 3, 1979 for worship. The construction of the present mosque began in 1986. On 28 November 1999 the new church was officially opened, so about 20 years after the opening of the first mosque. The long construction period of 13 years was caused by a lack of funding or by the time required to raise the funds through donations.

The construction was initiated by the Turkish community and largely financed; the total cost amounted to approximately six million dollars.

The name of the mosque Gallipoli is the common heritage of Australian society as well as the largest community behind the design - the Turkish- Muslim community - reflect; Gallipoli ( Turkish Gallipoli, a port city in northwestern Turkey ), during the First World War was the scene of fighting between Australian and Ottoman Turkish soldiers.

Islam is the predominant religion in Auburn; 40.9 % of the population declared themselves to Islam (2006 ).

The area on which the mosque stands, covers 4,000 square meters. The building is based on the classic Ottomanstil comprised a central and minarets. The mosque constructed by the architect Omer Kirazoglu and construction management had Ahmet Asim.
