Audition (Japaneseオーディション, Ōdishon ) is a horror film director Takashi Miike of Japan in 1999, based on the novel by Ryu Murakami.
Action
The businessman Aoyama is getting remarried seven years after the death of his wife. His best friend, a television producer, persuaded him to hold an audition for a fictional film, in which Aoyama is to choose a woman. His choice falls on the shy Asami, in which he is actually in love. But gradually appear on the first inconsistencies in Asami's resume. After Aoyama and Asami the first time to spend with each other, they disappear without a trace. His research for her to be accompanied by another sinister sign.
At the end Asami appears in Aoyama's house, where she paralyzes him and tortures. However, never really clear whether the torture are dream or reality, because in between the whole is represented by re-cuts and flashbacks as a dream.

The film was first shown, divided into various film festivals around the world. On March 3, 2000, he came to the Japanese cinema. Theatrical release in many other countries followed, such as, among others, in Germany on 26 January 2001.
Reception
Critics praised the horror film mainly, especially the " nightmarish similar " end. The negative voices criticized, for example, that the movie would be too long and the plot was getting on slowly.
Filmdienst wrote in the 2001-02 edition: " With artful restraint staged horror drama that initially only minimal hints to the cruel end allows, but then keeps the audience in suspense, whether it is a nightmare or reality. "
The film won at the Rotterdam International Film Festival 2000 the FIPRESCI Prize and the KNF Award. On Fanta Porto, a festival of fantasy films, Audition received a " Special Mention " and was in competition for the top prize.
