Fantasporto

Fanta Porto - Festival Internacional de Cinema do Porto is an international film festival that takes place annually in the Portuguese city of Porto. It specializes in fantasy movie and one of the world's largest film festivals for this genre.

Fanta Porto, also known by the abbreviation Fantas, was first place in 1981. It counts more than 100,000 visitors annually. In addition to the competition sections and retrospectives are held, which are usually devoted to specific countries or filmmakers. Organizer is the company Cinema Novo CRL. Financial subsidies relates the festival, among others, by the Portuguese Ministry of Culture.

Overview

The central competition section of the festival since 1982, the official section for fantasy films. The main prize is the Grand Prix ( Grande Prémio ) for the best film. In the fantasy section other film awards will be awarded by an international jury, including for director, screenplay, acting and special effects as well as for the best short film.

Since 1991, there is a section "Director's Week". Among other awards for best film as well as directing, screenwriting and acting are awarded.

For films from Asia Fanta Porto has since 2004, the section "Orient Express". Here's a prize for the best film and a Special Jury Prize will be awarded.

In several European festivals for fantasy film a movie with the price Méliès d' Argent awarded respectively. Besides Fantasporto this is about the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival and the Sitges Festival Internacional de Cinema de Catalunya. All winning films will then compete for the Méliès d'Or prize. It is named after the film Price Georges Méliès.

A number of other film awards are On Fantasporto lent, including Audience Awards, critics awards and prizes for his life's work.
