Auer Dult

The Auer Dult is a traditional fair in Munich. It takes place three times a year instead of at Mariahilfplatz in the Munich district of Au. The first Dult of the year, the so-called Maidult will be held around the first weekend in May. The Jakobidult takes place in late July / early August, and the Kirchweihdult located in the week after fair.

History

The Jakobidult was first held in 1310 on the Anger, the present Sankt - Jakobs-Platz. Starting in 1791, it took place in the Kaufingerstrasse and Neuhauser Straße. In 1796 Elector Karl Theodor gave the Munich suburb of Au east of the Isar the right to annually hold twice a dult. From this time the name Auer Dult comes. Since 1905 the dult place with the exception of the war and postwar years 1943-1946 held three times a year and lasts nine days, from Saturday to Sunday of the following week.

Market

On the art and antiques market exhibitors from Munich and the surrounding area can be found. They offer antiquarian books and utensils. The range extends from the chamber pot to old country furniture. This market area was sung by Fred Rauch in his song Auer Dult ( The Munich- year).

The Auer Dult is considered the largest tableware market in Europe. At numerous Standln ( stalls ) porcelain and pottery are offered. In addition, you will find another household accessories, natural remedies and clothing.

New products for household and health or special offers are touted by propagandists such as condoning Jacob. Their sayings have its own entertainment value for visitors.

Carnival

About three hundred dealers and showmen participate in the Auer Dult, which is now not only market but also fair. In addition to the field of Standlschmaus are nostalgic rides. These include a small Ferris wheel, a whirligig, a children's carousel, swing boats, a bumper cars and shooting galleries. Food stalls and a beer tent with a beer garden offering Bavarian specialties.

One of the famous showman, Stephan Bastian, the "Royal Bavarian court photographer ", represented since 1976 at the Auer Dult.

In contrast to the Oktoberfest and Munich Spring Festival Auer Dult is very manageable and quiet. Approximately 300,000 visitors are counted each year.
