August Kindermann

August Kindermann ( born February 6, 1817 in Potsdam, † March 6, 1891 in Munich) was a German opera singer.

Life

He was the son of a weaver and was supposed to be a bookseller. Since he had a beautiful voice, he was already recorded at the age of 15 years in the Choral Association of the Berlin Royal Opera House. There he sang on September 6, 1837, his first solo game. Since he does not progressed because of intrigues in Berlin, he joined in 1839 as second bassist at the Leipzig Stadttheater. The then director Friedrich Sebald Ringel Hardt gathered all sorts of talent around him, and soon Kindermann was a favorite of the audience. He associated with Albert Lortzingstraße, Robert Blum and Charles Herloßsohn. He also met the pianist Magdalena Hofmann, his future life partner.

In 1846 he wanted to move to Vienna, but the Munich court conductor Franz Lachner persuaded him for a guest performance. This was so successful that he took there a commitment on August 1, 1846 and remained until the end of his life. He sang in the years 1869 and 1870, the Wotan in the premieres of the first two operas of Richard Wagner's Ring of the Nibelung ( Das Rheingold, Die Walküre ) at the Royal Court and National Theatre in Munich as well as the Titurel at the premiere of Wagner's Parsifal in Bayreuth.

Kindermann was buried in the Old South Cemetery in Munich.

With his wife, Magdalena, nee Hofmann, he had several daughters, who became known as opera singers:

Also the son August became known in Weimar and Hamburg as an opera singer, Magdalena was from 1891 to 1906 co-director of the residence theater at Dresden.
