August Macke Prize

The August Macke Prize, named after the painter August Macke, was first founded in 1959 by the districts of Arnsberg, Brilon, Meschede and Olpe.

History

The prize was awarded by the Cultural ring for the Electorate of Cologne Sauerland 1959, 1964 and 1969. In 1974, the City Council Meschede, birthplace of August Macke decided to award the city of Meschede August Macke price in the future. With the price special services for diverse development in the field of visual arts will be honored with respect to the state of North Rhine -Westphalia since then.

Since 2008, the August Macke Prize is awarded by the newly Hochsauerlandkreis and is now to be awarded at regular intervals every 3 years. This newly institutionalized form of the August Macke Prize was created from the merger of the " Culture Award Hochsauerlandkreis " and the " August- Macke - Award of the City Meschede ".

The currently endowed with 20,000 € prize is awarded in each of the baptistery of August Macke.

For an exhibition in the Sauerland - Museum - Arnsberg with accompanying publication beyond are further € 20,000 is available. The exhibition of the winner Leiko Ikemura was held to 29 August 2010 at the Sauerland - Museum - Arnsberg on June 6, 2010.

August- Macke -Award

For the general concept of " August Macke Prize " donates the Cultural Foundation of the Westphalian provincial insurance the " August- Macke -Award ". The Culture Prize was established to promote, evaluation and dissemination of artistic activities in South Westphalia to life. He is, as the August Macke price, awarded every three years and is endowed with 5,000 euros, which must be earmarked for the development of the artistic work.
