August Seydler

August Johann Friedrich Seydler ( born June 1, 1849 in Senftenberg in Bohemia (today Žamberk, Czech Republic), † June 22, 1891 in Prague) was a Bohemian physicist and astronomer.

After he had finished his studies in philosophy, entered Seydler 1870 a position as an assistant at the observatory at Prague, 1872 he was promoted to co-factors. At the University he completed his habilitation at the same time as a lecturer in mathematical physics. 1882 Seydler was first an associate, in 1885 finally full professor of mathematical physics and astronomy at the newly established Czech University in Prague.

In addition to numerous physical treatises authored Seydler particular, a two -volume work on "Theoretical Physics" in the Czech language ( a third volume he could not accomplish ).

In astronomical area dealt Seydler with train calculations of minor planets and comets, but he also published theoretical studies such as " About the four-body problem, " " Contributions to the two- and three-body problem" or " contributions to the solution of Kepler's problem." Seydler founded in 1886 the Astronomical Institute of the Czech university.

After him the asteroid ( 6586 ) Seydler was named.
