Augusta Holtz

Augusta Louise Holtz, maiden name Louise Auguste Hoppe ( born August 3, 1871 in Czarnikau, Posen, Prussia, † October 21, 1986 in Florissant, Missouri) was a German American age record holder, who died at the age of 115 years and 79 days. She was from 1985 to 1990 the oldest person.

Life

Augusta Louise Holtz was born on August 14, 1871, the third child of Michael Hoppe (* September 3, 1839; † August 11, 1918 in Troy, Illinois ) and his wife Wilhelmine Henriette, born Quade ( born December 11, 1832 † 19 December 1922 in Troy, Illinois), in Czarnikau baptized in the former Prussian province of Posen. According to baptismal record she was born on August 3, 1871. The parents were married on 15 April 1866 in Czarnikau, as is evident also from the microfilmed church records of the local church. She had two older sisters and a younger brother. In 1873, the family emigrated to the United States. Her father owned near Troy, Illinois a farm. She married in 1900 Edward Holtz († 1922), with whom she had four children. Two of her children, she survived. At the age of 109 years, they moved to the St. Sophia Geriatric Center at Florissant in St. Louis County, Missouri, where she died.

Augusta Holtz was dated 12 October 1983 to her death the oldest living person. 14 May 1985 - as they surpassed the previous record holder Age of Fannie Thomas - to 11 May 1990, she was the person with the longest lifespan verified.
