Auguste Vestris

Marie Jean Augustin Vestris, known as Auguste Vestris ( born March 27, 1760 Paris, † December 5, 1842 ) was a French dancer and choreographer. Auguste is an illegitimate child of Gaetano Vestris and the dancer Marie Allard. Due to its extraordinary technology, it was also called the " god of dance ".

He debuted in 1772 in the Divertissement " La Cinquantaine ". Already in 1776 he became principal dancer in 1778 Primo ballerino. During the French Revolution, he fled to London, where he worked for his interpretation of a Gavotte from André Grétry comic opera Panurge dans l' île des lanternes ( 1785 ) became famous in 1785. This was Gavotte et al FA wrath (1820-1905) in his Grammar of the art of dance (Leipzig 1887, pp. 189-194 and pp. 42-43 ) described in detail. Auguste Vestris in 1793 returned back to Paris, where he took against the dancer Louis Duport. In 1835 he appeared as a 75 - year-old with Marie Taglioni in a minuet with on. After his retirement from the stage, he became a teacher of many famous dancers, including Marius Petipa Lucien Petipa, Fanny Elssler, Jules Perrot, and Marie Taglioni.

His son Auguste Armand Vestris (* 1788 ) was also a dancer and performed together on with his cousin Charles Vestris. He made his debut in 1800, allegedly at the Opéra. However, he left Paris and then went to Italy as a dancer and to Vienna, where he died in 1825.
