Augustin Reinhard Stricker (* 1680, † 1718/19 in Heidelberg? ) Was a German composer of operas and cantatas and Bach's predecessor as Kapellmeister at Köthen Duke's palace.

Life

Stricker's youth are still shrouded in darkness. Maybe he spent some time in Italy, as the preface of his Italian cantatas suggests a stay abroad. The first documented date is his service as " Cammer Musicus " in the Berlin court orchestra of King Frederick I of Prussia from February 1702nd

In 1705 he married the singer in Berlin Catharina Elisabeth Müller, who accompanied him in his later action places where they appeared as soloist. In December 1706 was the premiere of his opera "Victory over the beauty of the heroes " on the occasion of the wedding of the future " soldier king " Friedrich Wilhelm instead. The text output of the Berlin court poet and master of ceremonies John Besser reported that Stricker not only a part of the music was composed, but also as a god Neptune on stage participated. Another great festival opera Besser, " Alexander and Roxanen Heyrath " I came to the third marriage of Frederick in November 1708. Came this time the entire composition of knitters. The then only 14 - year-old Prince Leopold of Anhalt- Köthen participated as a dancer. Georg Philipp Telemann was living with two performances; Johann Mattheson also reported later.

After the death of Frederick I in 1713, the Berlin court orchestra was disbanded, and some of the musicians relocated immediately to Leopold's court in Köthen (Anhalt ), while Stricker followed them in 1714 to take over as principal conductor head of the newly founded there court orchestra. Stricker stayed here for three years and published in 1715 a band of secular cantatas. Beginning of 1717 he left Anhalt again. The same year signed the contract Johann Sebastian Bach as his successor in office.

In May 1717, we encounter short Stricker at the court in Gotha, but in July it acts as the Electoral Palatinate " Cammer - Compositeur " in Neuburg an der Donau in a pastiche " Crudeltà Consuma amore " with. Another pastiche created here in March 1718. Later that year he moved to Heidelberg, where his son was baptized in December 1718 with his family. Soon after he apparently died in Heidelberg.
