Augustine Hu Daguo

Augustine Hu Daguo (Chinese胡大国; born May 15, 1922 in Tongzhou, Guizhou; † 17 February 2011) was according to Father Ludwig Baumeister MSC and Father Matthias Buchholz MSC the first Chinese Roman Catholic Bishop of Shiqian.

Life

Augustine Hu Daguo occurred in 1934 in the Minor Seminary and in 1939 in the Major Seminary of the Diocese of Guiyang one. He received on 29 June 1951, the ordination. After a brief spell as assistant priest in the parish Youtangkou, teaching at the seminar and appointment as bishop coadjutor he was the victim of the takeover by the Communists and eventually arrested on 4 April 1955 by the Chinese authorities and convicted of " counter-revolutionary crimes ". After three years in prison in Guizhou, he was again sentenced to twelve years of hard labor and re-education in three factories in the region in 1958. He was sent as a day release to the factory Fuquan 1968. After his release after 27 years he was able to work as a priest again; also taught at the theological seminary of Chengdu in Sichuan Province.

Pope John Paul II appointed him bishop of the 1987 Shiqian. The bishop He was ordained in secret by the Bishop of Baoding, Peter Joseph Fan Xueyan. The line of his diocese he could never accept the other hand, since this was officially dissolved in 1983 by the Chinese side and the place since then is considered vacant.

Hu Daguo had to fight after an accident in 1999 with various health problems and could perceive only limited his involvement. Most recently, he was a priest at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Guiyang.

He was buried on 20 February 2011 following a Requiem in the Cathedral of Shiqui.
