Augusto Righi

Augusto Righi ( born August 27, 1850 in Bologna, † June 8, 1920 ) was an Italian physicist.

Life

Righi was a professor in Palermo, Padua and Bologna.

In 1880 he discovered the magnetic hysteresis. He has advanced the understanding of interference phenomena and discovered in 1887 the thermomagnetic Righi - Leduc effect.

Simultaneously with William Hall wax he discovered the electron emission at the photoelectric effect.

In 1905 he was awarded the Hughes Medal of the Royal Society, in which he was admitted in 1907 as " Foreign Member ".
