Augustus Applegath

Augustus Applegath (* 1788, † 1871) was a British inventor.

In 1816 he got together with the mechanic Edward Cowper a patent for the roll bending of stereos. Between 1847 and 1850 they built the first workable printing speed presses. In this press, the printing plate was mounted on a vertically standing cylinder. The so-called Rotary Press was 8,000 sheets per hour, print, and was initially built for the Times. Furthermore Applegath led from the first to the table coloring so called, which was applied mainly in the USA, Great Britain and France. He also invented in 1828 together with Cowper, the four-cylinder press, which could print up to 4,000 sheets per hour.
