Life

There is no evidence from which older Postumii Albini Postumius descended to. He accompanied his brother Spurius in its Consulate 110 BC on the campaign against Jugurtha. In the late autumn of this year he took over the command of the troops, when his brother went to the line of the consular elections for the next year to Rome. But the freestyle of the new consuls delayed because of quarrels. During so long absence of his brother Postumius was tempted in winter ( BC beginning 109) to venture an attack on the city Suthul, since there the riches of the Numidian king were kept. As the city could not be conquered once, Postumius step to their siege. But succeeded Jugurtha, the Romans lure of Suthul and let fall into a trap. Then Postumius had to capitulate. After a personal interview with Jugurtha Postumius was forced to agree to a very humiliating for Rome withdrawal plan: the legions had to leave Numidia within ten days.

The Senate in Rome did not accept the policies imposed by Jugurtha contract terms and strained against Postumius, his brother and another on sluggish course of the war against Numidia guilty to a process. Although condemned by Postumius is not expressly stated, it must be done, because his brother suffered demonstrably this fate. In research, it is debatable whether Postumius is to identify with the same consul of 99 BC.
