Australia Party

The Australia Party (AP ) was an existing in the 1960er/70er years Australian small party. The members of the Australia Party sat down vs. a participation in the Vietnam war in their country and the policy on conscription Liberals. Major figure in the founding of the Party, the Australian businessman and political activist Gordon Barton.

History

The Australia Party grew out of the Liberal Reform Group, a grouping which had broken away from the prestigious Liberal Party of Australia. In their naming in 1969, the party also attracted disillusioned members of the Australian Labor Party. Both of State - as well as federal elections participated in the AP. Your best election results was the Australia Party in 1972 achieved at the height of the Vietnam War, but without gaining any seat. In the elections in 1974 and 75, the initial success could not be confirmed and the trend was negative. Most trailers therefore taken with regard to the federal elections in 1977 before switching to the Australian Democrats, founded by liberal ministers Don Chipp. Subsequently, the Australia Party disbanded.
