Austrian Latin America Institute

The Austrian Latin America Institute ( LAI) in Vienna is an interdisciplinary center for academic and cultural exchanges with Latin America. It was founded in 1965, has the legal form of an association and receives public funding for his research and development activities. About half of the annual budget is funded from its own resources, mainly from the proceeds of educational events and membership fees. The institute is located since 1994 at the Palais silt in the 9th district.

Library

The Institute maintains a company specializing in the Latin American region library and documentation center collection emphasis specialized books and journals on economics, politics, history, culture, society and ecology of the Latin American countries as well as literary works of Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking authors and their translations into German. The library is a member of the European Information and Documentation Network on Latin America REDIAL.

Interdisciplinary university course for Higher Latin American Studies

The six interdisciplinary university course for Higher Latin American Studies is a part-time regional specific training program, which is in Austria the only Latin American Studies courses offered on an academic level. It is organized by the University of Vienna in cooperation with the Austrian Latin America Institute and completed with a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies.

Information, advice and support

The institute provides information and advice for anyone interested in Latin America people and promotes and advises Latin American students in Austria. As part of the " One World Scholarship Program " scholarships are awarded to Hispanic students in Austria.

Atención

Scientific Yearbook of the Institute has been published since 1997 under the title Atención once a year as a continuation of the 1975 published until 1996 Journal of Latin Vienna with contributions in German, Spanish and English. The selection of topics is modeled on the topics of the semester interdisciplinary academic program for higher Latin American Studies.

Scientific and cultural projects

Austrian Association Latin American Studies

The Institute itself is not a research institution, it cared for and supported, however, the joint venture (JV ) Austrian Latin America Research ( Lateinmerikaforschung Austria). The consortium is an association for scientific networking, for an interdisciplinary exchange of ideas and cross-disciplinary collaboration of researchers in Latin America Austria.
