Austrian legislative election, 1930

The general election on November 9, 1930, the fourth in the history of Austria and the last of the First Republic. The Social Democratic Workers Party of Austria was correct and most seats the party. Second place went to the Christian Social Party, which contested in conjunction with the Home Guard. A list Association of Greater Germany and Land League was the third strongest party. Also in the House of Representatives managed a nominee as Heimatblock Home Guard cleavage by Ernst Rüdiger Starhemberg and Carl Vaugoin.

Were entitled to vote 4,121,282 people. The turnout was 90.5 per cent ( 1927: 89.3 percent).

Background

After Christian Social, Great German and parts of the National Socialist movement competed as a unit list in the parliamentary elections in 1927, it stood as candidates separated again in this election. The Christian Social Party formed an electoral party with the Home Guard, while the Greater German an electoral alliance with the Land League were received to the list name "National economic bloc ."

Electioneering

The campaign reflected the strong conflicts between the political camps. Thus, the posters of the Christian Social Party directed strongly against the Social Democratic Workers' Party, which one was to blame for the revolt of July 1927. Also, the Social Democratic Gloeckel - decree, which reduced the strong influence of the Roman Catholic Church on the school system, was a campaign issue of the Christian Social.

The Social Democrats campaigned with a strengthening of the protection of tenants, which they saw threatened by the Christian Social Party, and demanded the introduction of a general unemployment benefits. The Christian Social threw them before, nothing to do about the high unemployment rate. The poor economic situation and issues such as the Federal Railroad scandal and various banking affairs, were significantly involved in the Christian Social politicians dominated the social democratic elections. Furthermore, they warned their posters prior to an impending civil war and called for a general disarmament.
