The Autenbach in Waldaschaff

The Autenbach is the right source of Bach Aschaff in the Aschaffenburg district in the Bavarian Spessart.

Course

The Autenbach rises in Autenborn, a major source on the road between Waldaschaff and Roth book, in Waldaschaffer forest. The source is located on the same campground Autenborn. Further down in the valley of the Autenbach passes a drift dam. Then he fed some ponds that were created for fish farming of trout Spessart. In Waldaschaff him the means to stream flows and the Autenbach joins the Kleinaschaff to Aschaff.

Some not call the Autenbach as a source stream of Aschaff, but only as a side stream.

Holztrift

The Autenbach was used to drift operation at the beginning of the 18th century. The term Holztrift means the rafts or transporting firewood short pieces with the help of the water of streams and rivers. The drift champion accumulated towards the end of winter on the water in the pasture pond. Then the pieces of wood which were required primarily for the supply of Aschaffenburg, were thrown into the Autenbach and open the drain at the dam. The rafters had to ensure that the logs quickly swam to the timber yard on the lower reaches of the Aschaff. As one of the few traces of this tradition is still the drift dam at Autenbach above Waldaschaff. This Renovated in 2011. The impressive dam wall of hewn sandstone blocks is a listed building.
