Machines is a song by Swiss band mittageisen, which was first in January 1985 as Maxi-/12 '' version ( LUNA - MB 8501 ), with a novel for that time electro sound published. " Automatic " was right after the publication of 'Record of the week in rock show sounds! the Swiss Radio DRS 3 As a result, the single found its way into the legendary John Peel show on BBC Radio 1 and became the indie disco hit.

Due to the success a few months later published a roughly two minutes shorter 7'' version ( LUNA MB 8505 ). On the back of 12'' - as the 7'' version is the instrumental piece "New China". It was produced piece by Bruno W or his label LUNA - MB - MUSIC, today mital -U.

Both versions were in 2008 on the double CD mittageisen 1983-1986 remastered ( mital -U) published new.

Formation

The piece was, after the departure of Markus Sch (guitar) and simultaneous influx of Manuela H ( synthesizer), as part of the musical reorientation of mittageisen. The music is by mittageisen and the text of Bruno Bruno W. As W said in a radio interview, the piece was originally recorded and mixed in another version. However, the group was dissatisfied with the final version, and so Bruno W ran the recording tapes at Tom Dokoupil (The economic miracle ) and Detlev Kühne to Cologne, added to their on line studio the voice and new together, the song was remixed.

Content

The for mittageisen typical ambiguous text is explained by the chorus line " work - only for robots ". What according to Bruno W refer to " automatic " not primarily machines, but as well as the full text, in particular are meant robot -like functioning people.
