Avel Enukidze

Abel Yenukidze (Georgian აბელ ენუქიძე, IPA:. . [ Ɑbɛl.ɛnuk ʰ id ͜ zɛ ]; Russian Авель Сафронович Енукидзе / Awel Safronovich Yenukidze; * 7 Maijul / May 19 1877greg, † October 30, 1937 ) was a Soviet politician of Georgian origin. From 1918 to 1935 he was Chairman of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the CPSU.

Life

Yenukidze was a relative of Joseph Stalin and his first wife Ketevan Svanidze. He was a Bolshevik of the first hour. Yenukidze knew the family of Stalin and Sergei Alliluyevs from Georgia, where he had worked with them. He belonged to the inner circle of the nomenklatura of the Stalin era.

Also, the second wife of Stalin, Nadezhda Alliluyeva, was close to Yenukidze. He was her godfather and best man. On the evening before her death, he had danced with her and then seen as the first her body.

In July of 1935 Yenukidze all items was dismissed and expelled from the party by the plenum of the Central Committee. On February 11, 1937 he was arrested, tried, sentenced on 29 October 1937 death and executed the following day.
