Avenida Raúl Scalabrini Ortiz

The Avenida Scalabrini Ortiz is a main road in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires. It runs parallel to Avenida Juan B. Justo Avenue of the Warnes to Plaza Alemania, crossing the districts of Villa Crespo and Palermo.

History

1867, when the present-day Avenida Scalabrini Ortiz was still a dirt road, it was called El Camino del Ministro Inglés (the way of the English minister) because the British diplomat Henry Southern, she used to go to his country house. A decree of November 27, 1893 decreed the renamed Avenida Canning, in honor of George Canning, the former Foreign Minister of Great Britain.

Another decree, dated 31 May 1974, from the reign of Juan Perón, certain renaming the current name Avenida Scalabrini Ortiz. Raúl Scalabrini Ortiz was an Argentine writer, journalist and essayist.

Two years later, under the military dictatorship, the avenue was renamed back to Canning Avenida to again receive its current name on 29 December 1985.

At their temporary names reminiscent of Salon Canning, a tango hall on Avenida in the Palermo district.
