Avernakø ( German Avernakö ) is a Danish island in the "Danish Southern Seas " south of Funen and forms a separate parish municipality (Danish: Sogn ) Avernakø Sogn, the office belonged to the Danish municipal reform of 1970 Harde Sallinge Herred in the former Svendborg, then to Faaborg municipality in the County of Funen, which merged in the region Syddanmark in the course of municipal reform on 1 January 2007 in Faaborg - Midtfyn municipality. Avernakø belongs to the Association of Danish small islands. The island was originally composed of the two islands Avernak and Korshavn, in 1937 connected by a 700 meter long dam. Livelihood is agriculture.

Avernakø is known for its Maypole in Avernakø By and Munke. Otherwise, you will find Maypoles only on the island Strynø. The Maypole of Avernakø By is the largest and most pristine in its form of Denmark. On Pentecost Sunday, the men of the village gather around the tree.
