Avram Grant
Avraham " Avram " Grant (Hebrew אַבְרָהָם גְרַנט; born May 6, 1955 in Petah Tikva ) is an Israeli football coach and manager.
Career
Grant began his coaching career in 1972 as a youth coach of his home club Hapoel Petah Tikva until 1986, he was appointed to the A- team. As a first success, he was able to record winning the Toto Cup, he could still win as a professional coach with the team in his first year. In 1990, he repeated this success. As of 1991, followed by coach stations at renowned clubs such as the Israeli Maccabi Tel Aviv and Maccabi Haifa. In 2002 he was appointed coach of the Israeli national football team, replacing Richard Møller Nielsen the Danes. In qualifying for the World Cup 2006, he led his team to third place behind France and Switzerland, without losing a game ( four wins, six draws).
In the same year, the English Premier League club Portsmouth FC became aware of him, who signed him as technical director. Grant chose to give up his coach of the national team. 2007 Grant was brought by his longtime friend Roman Abramovich to Chelsea, where he took over the post of sporting director beginning of the season. On September 20th of that year he took over from José Mourinho the post of coach and has since been responsible ( since October 2007, with Henk ten Cate ) for the first team along with Steve Clarke. On 13 December 2007 his contract for the next four years has been extended. Three days after the defeat in the Champions League final against Manchester United, Grant was sacked.
In October 2009, he returned as a football director for Portsmouth and took over a month later the office of the head coach.
