Avril-sur-Loire

Avril -sur -Loire is a commune of 235 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Nièvre in the Burgundy region. It belongs administratively to the arrondissement and canton Nevers Decize.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Loire Valley, about eight kilometers west of Decize. Neighboring communities of Avril -sur -Loire are:

  • Sougy -sur -Loire in the north,
  • Decize in the east,
  • Saint- Germain- Chassenay in the south,
  • Neuville- lès- Decize in the southwest and
  • Fleury- sur -Loire in the west.

The place is situated on the left bank of the Loire, between the river and the Canal in the Loire ( dt: Loire Lateral Canal ), the approximately one kilometer south parallel to the river here runs. While the western municipal area is heavily wooded by its share of the Bois de Neuville, dominate the eastern part of the rivers Acolin, Abron and Dornette, all of which strive towards the Loire.
